Should “Pro-Choice” Politicians be Allowed to Receive Holy Communion?—Ask a Class of Children preparing for their First Holy Communion (Francis Cardinal Arinze)

African Blessed Cited by Cdl. Arinze

April 29, 2014 ( – The question of whether Catholic politicians who support abortion should receive or be denied Holy Communion has been a source of contentious debate amongst many bishops and theologians. But according to one of the Vatican’s most senior cardinals, the answer to the question is so simple that even schoolchildren intuitively know it.

In an exclusive video interview with this week, Cardinal Francis Arinze observed that he is often asked about pro-abortion Catholic politicians and Holy Communion. “Do you really need a cardinal from the Vatican to answer that?” the cardinal said he tells his questioners. “Is that really a difficult question?”

“These children did not study dogmatic theology at the Catholic University of America or at the Gregorian University in Rome, and they saw immediately that killing an unborn child is wrong!”Instead, says Arinze, he suggests that people who are confused about the issue should go ask a class of children preparing for their First Communion.

“Explain it to them,” he said. “They will ask you, ‘What is abortion?’ Don’t use euphemism. Tell them what it is. It is killing a child not yet born in the mother’s womb. And then tell them if a person is for that, and says that he will continue to support the killing of such children, should such a person receive Holy Communion?”

The cardinal said that one parish priest told him he tested this out on a First Communion class, and they all responded, “No, he should not!”

“These children did not study dogmatic theology at the Catholic University of America or at the Gregorian university in Rome,” said Arinze. “And they saw immediately that killing an unborn child is wrong!”

Arinze, a Nigerian cardinal, currently serves as Prefect Emeritus of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, having served as prefect from 2002 to 2008. He was widely considered a leading contender to be elected pope at the last conclave.

Canon 915 of the Church’s Code of Canon Law states that those who are “obstinately persevering in manifest grave sin are not to be admitted to Holy Communion.”

Though some bishops and cardinals have opposed the use of the canon, the Vatican has been clear in upholding it. In 2004, Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, then-head of the Congregation for Doctrine of the Faith, wrote a letter to the U.S. bishops exhorting them to deny Communion to pro-abortion politicians after attempting to reach out to them.
Cardinal Arinze with Colleen Bayer of Family Life International during this week’s meeting during which the interview took place. Family Life International is one of the co-sponsors of this Saturday’s Pro-Life Summit at the Vatican City.

Cardinal Arinze told that he has no patience for politicians who say that they are “personally” opposed to abortion, but are unwilling to “impose” their views on others.

“This is wonderful logic that you have!” he says he responded to one politician who told him this. “It is just like me saying, ‘You members of congress and parliament, I am personally not in favor of shooting all of you, but some want to shoot all of you. I cannot impose my views on them. It is pro-choice!

“What a wonderful logic.”

“It isn’t my view. It isn’t my law,” the cardinal continued. “It is God’s law. Thou shalt not kill. Anyway, the person making that argument, if he had been killed in his mother’s womb, he would not be there to make the argument. The matter seems to me simple and straight.”

Blessed Cyprian Michael Iwene Tansi

During the interview, the cardinal also elaborated on the profound influence that Blessed Cyprian Michael Iwene Tansi, who died in 1964, had on his life.

Blessed Cyprian Michael Iwene Tansi is the first Nigerian to be beatified, which is the first step towards full-fledged canonization. Blessed Tansi was the first priest that Cardinal Arinze ever knew. He baptized the cardinal, performed his first confession and Communion, and Cardinal Arinze served as an altar server for him.

“As a priest, he was known for great zeal in his priestly ministry,” explained the cardinal. “He preached no-nonsense homilies so that even after 50 years, we still remember some of the things he said!”

A Meditation on the Scriptural Connection between
Sexual Immorality, Greed, and Theft.

Archdiocese of Washington, DC
But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people….For of this you can be sure: No sexually immoral, impure or greedy person….has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. (Eph 5:3,5)

Porneia (πορνεία)—adultery, fornication, homosexuality, defilement of idolatry.

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, and greed, which is idolatry. (Col 3:5)

Sex Kills

Every Single Exercise
of the Human Sexual Faculty,
Either Grants Life, Or Takes It,
To Some Degree, Without Fail

For from within, out of men’s hearts, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery. (Mk 7:21)

The lustful, sexually immoral, unrepentant person says, in effect, “I want sexual pleasure for myself. I do not want to pay any ‘price’ for it by having to see it in relationship to other goods and people. I do not want to see it in relationship to the institution of marriage, or to the love of a spouse, or to family, or to children. I do not want commitments or responsibilities. I want to indulge in sex because I want it. All that matters is that I want it.”

Many go further in accepting few, if any limits on what they want, despising norms that in any way seek to limit their access to sex, or to place it in a wider, more responsible context.

The link between abortion and domestic abuse

FINDING HOPE – Ella’s Prenant. But she’s hiding a secret. Instead of Joy, she feels only TERROR.
At times her secret seems too heavy to bear. How will “he” react?
“He” can be SO SWEET sometimes, and he’s always ‘So Sorry‘…”AFTERWARDS
Still she has hope. “Please let ‘him’ be okay with it…”
HE’S NOT OKAY. Her path seems clear. It’s her only option…(ABORTION CLINIC).
Ella: “It’s all my fault. I’ve got no choice.” Doctor: “This time next week it will all be over.” Ella: “Is that it?”
Hope fades. But it’s far from over… 30% of Domestic Abuse begins in pregnancy.
1 in 4 Women who seek abortions are victims of domestic violence.
That’s 50,000 UK women locked in a cycle of Abortion, Pregnancy, Violence.
They’re often isolated from friends and family. So no one even asks them, “Are you ok?”, let alone,
“Why do you want an abortion?”… Not even the health professionals tasked with caring for them.
The Association Between Abortion and Violence Towards Women Is Strong.

Almost 40% of those seeking an abortion report being victims of abuse.  According to one Canadian study (below), these women are almost 300% more likely to be victims than the general female population, and with those abused within the previous year, the rate climbs to almost 400%.

Spiritual Adoption

Lord, help me put aside the things that are breaking my heart, to pray for the things that are breaking Your heart. Amen.

The Purpose of the Spiritual Adoption Program is threefold:

  • Encourage parishes, schools and other communities to pray for babies in danger of abortion.
  • Educate adults and children about the development of the pre-born child.
  • Provide mothers in need with assistance at a ‘baby shower’ of donated baby gifts, or simply celebrate with a ‘birthday party’ at the conclusion of the program. In some schools a crib was bought with monetary gifts and the children filled a crib with gifts for expectant Mothers.

This is done by encouraging people to “spiritually adopt” an unborn baby, and to follow their baby along the path to being born.

How does it work?

It’s very simple. Participants pledge to pray for nine months for a baby in danger of abortion. During each month of the program, the “spiritual parents” are given information about their baby’s development in the womb.  Continue reading

A primer on how to recognize a cover up of the abortion-breast cancer link (ABC link)

By Joel Brind, Ph.D.

Joel Brind, Ph.D.

After researching and publishing on the ABC link for over 20 years, I’ve managed to get the hang of the formulaic manner in which studies come out periodically to “reassure” the public about the “safety” of abortion. Such studies often come out in the most prominent medical journals, coincidentally on the heels of studies that have reconfirmed the reality of the ABC link.

Why? To keep up the mainstream medical journals’ wall of denial.

But one needn’t be an epidemiologist to appreciate the way standard epidemiological (epi) methods are used inappropriately, so as to make the facts of the ABC link disappear. The techniques are remarkably few. With a few real life examples from the ABC literature, the lay person should be able to learn to spot these tricks rather easily.

Case-control studies

First, it is important to understand the two basic types of epi study. The most common is the case-control study. In a case-control study, a group of patients with the disease in question (e.g., breast cancer) is recruited, along with a group of women without cancer, but who are otherwise similar in age, ethnicity, and country (or smaller location) of residence. The latter group is the “control” group. Continue reading

The Chaplet of Divine Mercy

preMysteriesThe Crucifix:
Lord, for all those who say “I don’t believe,” “I say I believe in God….continue with saying the creed.”
First Our Father (clear/white bead):

We offer this first Our Father for the intentions of our Holy Father, the Pope.

The three purple HAIL MARYS:

The purple beads represent the Lord’s Passion and Death. Lord, (I/we) offer these three Hail Marys for an increase in Faith, Hope and Love in all people so that all people will always CHOOSE LIFE, and (I/we) also offer them in reparation for the suffering You endure each time an unborn baby is killed, each time someone is euthanized, each time death overcomes life in this world. Amen.

(Click Open) First Decade (Aqua-blue and white/clear beads)

Dear Lord, Dear Mother Mary, every aqua bead in this decade is special, for on it (I/we) pray that Hail Mary for the intentions of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, and on every clear/white bead, (I/we) say that Hail Mary for peace in our world. Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, have Mercy on us! Mary, Queen of Peace, pray for us! Amen.

Second Decade (Red and clear/white beads)

Jesus, Source of Mercy; Mary, Bearer of Mercy, on every red Hail Mary, (I/we) pray in reparation for the blood spilled from every baby wrenched from its mother’s womb through abortion. (I/we) know that even as You hold and comfort each of these precious little ones, the horror of their slaughter screams for justice to be meted out upon our world. May these red Hail Marys be a source of reparation for sin. (I/we) also offer each white/clear Hail Mary for the mothers and fathers of these aborted little ones, that they may receive the grace to repent of this sin, turn to Jesus, and receive the gift of salvation with open hearts. Heal them of the emotional and psychological wounds that this sin has caused as You pour out the graces of conversion upon them. Let them now witness for life! Amen.

Third Decade (Black and clear/white beads)

Lord Jesus, Mother Mary, in this decade (I/we) pray the Hail Mary on every black bead in reparation for the sins of the entire medical profession: all doctors, nurses and assistants of every type who contribute to abortion, euthanasia, or any procedure in the interest of death. On every white/clear Hail Mary (I/we) plead for their conversion. Let them see the truth of what they are doing, see the horror of it, rend their hearts in repentance, then work for life and for You, Lord Jesus, all the rest of their days. Amen.

Fourth Decade (Red, clear/white, and blue beads)

Lord Jesus, Source of All Truth; Mary, Our Lady of all Peoples with every red Hail Mary (I/we) pray that every bad anti-life law in our nation and world be reversed. With every clear/white Hail Mary (I/we) plead protection and strengthening of every pro-life law in existence; and with every blue Hail Mary (I/we) petition for new and stronger pro-life laws to be enacted in our nation and in our world. Amen.

Fifth Decade (Green and clear/white beads)

Lord Jesus, true God and true Man, (I/we) thank You for Your Incarnation. You were formed in the womb of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Your humanity at the moment of Your conception reveals the incomparable value of each and every one of us at the moment of our conceptions. Had Satan had his way, You too would have been torn from Your mother’s womb, never to be born and never to fulfill Your destiny in the particular manner in which You did fulfill it. The color green is symbolic of hope. On every green Hail Mary (I/we) thank You for those who in any way work for life. Give them continued courage, strength, peace of heart, and love. Protect them from all evil and increase their witness in this nation and in this world. Strengthen their families to understand the importance of their work and to support them in their stand for life.

Mother Mary, Our Mother under the titles of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mother of Perpetual Help, Queen of Peace, join us in our intercession for the end of all pro-death activities. Crush the head of evil in our nation, our world, and in our personal lives. Roll back the crimson holocaust. With every clear/white Hail Mary of this decade advance the cause of your divine Son, Jesus, the Incarnate Word! Stay the hand of Chastisement, and if it must fall – protect your children! Amen.

Hail, Holy Queen, mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope.
To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve, to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears.
Turn then, O most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this exile show to us the Blessed Fruit of they womb, Jesus.
O clement, o loving, o sweet virgin Mary.
Pray for us, o holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

KOVR-13 Backpedals Erroneous Report Against Project Truth

California TV station apologizes for misleading coverage of pro-life vigil

by Kirsten Andersen | Friday, April 11, 2014

SACRAMENTO, April 11, 2014 (LifeSiteNews) – A Sacramento-area television station has issued a clarification and apology after pro-life activists cried foul over a report they said was full of lies.

Project Truth was accused in a recent KOVR-13 news report of blanketing neighborhoods and cars near a high school with graphic images of abortion victims. The news report included footage of an angry neighbor of the school telling an unidentified man to stop putting abortion literature on his car.

However, Project Truth denied that the man was part of their team, and said they only hand out literature to students who express interest. In a formal letter to the station, the group’s legal counsel, Allison Aranda of Life Legal Defense Foundation, speculated that reporter Anjali Hemphill staged the footage herself in order to drive a false narrative designed to make the pro-life movement look bad.

On Wednesday, the station acknowledged the coverage was deceptive and issued an apology, but stopped short of saying it was intentional on the part of either Hemphill or KOVR-13.

“During our report, we interviewed Larry Blount, who lives across the street from the school and was upset by the fliers,” the station said. “A portion of the interview we aired may have created the impression that someone from the group, which calls itself Project Truth, placed a flier on Mr. Blount’s car. The other person we showed appeared to be one of Mr. Blount’s neighbors. … We regret any confusion.” Continue reading

Women Hold Protest of HHS Mandate in Washington

Women Speak for Themselves, a grassroots organization of more than 40,000 women for religious freedom, gathered at Lafayette Square in Washington, D.C. to protest enforcement of the Health and Human Services mandate, which requires employers (including some religious institutions) to cover contraceptives for employees. The mandate has been in effect for for-profit organizations for more than a year.

“I went to Georgetown Law. But my classmate Sandra Fluke does not speak for me … I can speak for myself. And I speak for religious freedom,” said Maya Noronha, an attorney, to applause from the protesters.

The group of women rallied in the square to hear an hour of brief speeches from women of varied backgrounds. Afterward, some protesters went to Capitol Hill to meet with members of Congress to urge them to fight the mandate.  Continue reading
