Distorting ‘Denial of Care’ Into a Virtue

Wanting to be cured of illness is “depraved”
—if your life isn’t worth saving.

“In a bygone era, doctors thought every life was important. Treatment was aggressive and persistent in intensive care units even when it might be futile.…”

A UCLA “academic study” is providing the theoretical basis for denying ordinary care to those deemed “Life Unworthy of Life” (Lebensunwertes Leben).

That idea, most prominently advanced by the Nazis, has been repackaged as “futile care theory”, disregarding the fact that all persons are in the process of moving towards death from their earliest moments.

University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), Health Sciences
Summary: Providing futile treatment in the intensive care unit sets off a chain reaction that causes other ill patients needing medical attention to wait for critical care beds, according to a study. The study is the first to show that when unbeneficial medical care is provided, others who might be able to benefit from treatment are harmed, said the study’s lead author.

The California Catholic Conference, the official organ of the California Bishops, expects that there will be a major push in 2015 in the California Legislature to make Physician Assisted Suicide the law of California. If disability rights groups succeed in blocking the money influence of hospitals and insurance companies in the legislature, plans are for a public relations blitz in 2016 in support of a statewide suicide initiative. The UCLA study provides an x-ray of the disinformation we can expect to be coming over television in the summer of 2016.

Twin Brothers Become Priests After Their Mother Rejects Abortion

FathersPauloAndFelipeLizamaFr. Paulo Lizama and his identical twin, Fr. Felipe Lizama, were born in 1984 despite doctors encouraging their mother, Rosa Silva, to have an abortion.

Silva was a paramedic, and before discovering she was pregnant, exposed herself to x-rays while performing routine duties. At the time, abortion was legal in Chile for “therapeutic” reasons, and doctors encouraged her to end the life within her because her scans showed abnormalities. She was told that her baby had two heads, three arms, and its feet were sort of entangled. Silva said that instead of abortion, she would accept whatever God gave her.

When she delivered on September 10, 1984, two sons came out, and they were identical twins! Felipe was born first, but when Rosa’s placenta would not detach, doctors suggested scraping her womb. She refused, and 17 minutes later, Paulo was born. Continue reading

Making Gay Okay: How Rationalizing Homosexual Behavior Is Changing Everything

Robert Reilly

  • Description: Why are Americans being forced to consider homosexual acts as morally acceptable? Why has the US Supreme Court accepted the validity of same-sex “marriage”, which, until a decade ago, was unheard of in the history of Western or any other civilization? Where has the “gay rights” movement come from, and how has it so easily conquered America? The answers are in the dynamics of the rationalization of sexual misbehavior. The power of rationalization the means by which one mentally transforms wrong into right drives the gay rights movement, gives it its revolutionary character, and makes its advocates indefatigable. The homosexual cause moved naturally from a plea for tolerance to cultural conquest because the security of its rationalization requires universal acceptance. In other words, we all must say that the bad is good. Robert Reilly, author of “Making Gay OK” is with us.
  • Robert Reilly was Senior Advisor for Information Strategy (2002-2006) for the US Secretary of Defense, after which he taught at National Defense University. He was the director of the Voice of America (2001-2002) and served in the White House as a Special Assistant to the President (1983-1985). A graduate of Georgetown University and the Claremont Graduate University, he writes widely on “war of ideas” issues, foreign policy, and classical music. Awful Story Shows the Dark Side of IVF & Surrogate Motherhood

Reaping the Whirlwind

By Monsignor Charles Pope, Pastor, Holy Comforter-St. Cyprian, Archdiocese of Washington DC
18th Sunday of the Year, August 3, 2014

GammyA Thai woman who carried a baby with Down’s syndrome as a surrogate mother has vowed to take care of the boy after his natural parents gave him up. The Australian couple left Gammy, now six months old, with Pattaramon Chanbua but took his healthy twin sister. (The biological father, David Farnell, has been convicted of 22 sexual-abuse counts against children.) Gammy has a congenital heart condition, a lung infection and Down’s and is in a Thai hospital for urgent treatment. (David Farnell and his wife Wendy asked for a refund for the money they paid for Gammy after they learned of that he suffers from Down Syndrome.) A campaign to help the baby begun online after Thai newspaper Thairath published Gammy’s story last week. It has raised more than $150,000 from 3,400 donors in 11 days. In Australia,

Gammy’s sister Pipah, father David with his wife Wendy

Prime Minister Tony Abbott expressed his sadness: “I guess it illustrates some of the pitfalls involved in this particular business.” Ms Pattaramon was paid $15,000 to be a surrogate for the Farnells. She was told of the child’s condition four months after becoming pregnant, prompting the couple to ask her to have an abortion. She refused, saying it was against her Buddhist beliefs. (The full article is available here: Surrogate Mother Cares for Disabled Child Rejected by Biological “Parents”.)

Jesus said, “What God has joined together, let no one divide.” But this is exactly what we have done in our divisive and reductionist time. We have done so not only with marriage but also with sexuality, procreation, and the raising of children. God has weaved together sex, marriage, and procreation. But we have separated and isolated them:

1) Regarding sex, we have said that there is no necessary connection between sex and procreation—we have done this with the contraceptive mentality.

2) Regarding marriage, we have said that there is no necessary connection between getting married and having children—we have done this through the widespread use of contraception and now by embracing the notion of same-sex unions.

3) Regarding children, we have even said that there is no necessary connection between having children and having sex—we have done this by in vitro fertilization, surrogate motherhood, and the like. Continue reading

Georgetown researchers: Offer preteen girls sex ed and abortion while they are still ‘malleable’

Cutting Parents Out of the Picture

Ben Johnson | LifeSiteNews | August 6, 2014

A new report from “Catholic” Georgetown University suggests that public school children should be exposed to explicit sex education at age 10 – while their views are still “malleable” – and that schools could lower STD and abortion rates by providing all girls capable of reproduction with “contraceptives and safe abortion” without “parental approval.”

The report promotes the sex ed and abortion-on-demand regimen for “Very Young Adolescents (VYAs),” defined as children between the ages of 10 and 14.

Investing in very young adolescents’ sexual and reproductive health” was written by Susan M. Igras, Marjorie Macieira, Elaine Murphy, and Rebecka Lundgren of the Institute for Reproductive Health at Georgetown University and published in Global Public Health. Continue reading

Media’s Hobby Lobby Reporting Repeatedly Deceived Public on Abortion

by James D. Agresti | Washington, DC | 7/29/2014

In the buildup to the Supreme Court’s Hobby Lobby decision, and even more so in its aftermath, prominent news outlets have been aggressively spreading falsehoods about key aspects of the case. Beyond logical fallacies about who is imposing their will on others, many reports and commentaries also contain statements that are discredited by the scientific facts at the core of this case.

Although journalism standards give commentators “wide latitude” to express their views, this is not a license to mutilate the truth. In the words of New York Times deputy editorial page editor Trish Hall, “the facts in a piece must be supported and validated. You can have any opinion you would like, but you can’t say that a certain battle began on a certain day if it did not.”

Yet, the New York Times and other media outlets have repeatedly broadcast demonstrably false claims about the Hobby Lobby case. Among the most frequent of these are as follows:       As detailed below, all of those claims are deceitful and derived from politicized, unauthoritative sources. In reality, data from highly credible sources shows that:
  • Medical science shows that the Obama administration’s “contraception” mandate has nothing to do with abortion.
  • The Hobby Lobby case concerns the destruction of living, viable human embryos.
  • IUDs don’t terminate human embryos.
  • IUDs terminate viable human embryos.
  • Morning-after pills don’t kill human embryos.
  • Morning-after pills may kill embryos, and claims that they don’t are based upon crass distortions of scientific studies.

What follows is the documentation of these facts, along with the details of how media outlets have flouted basic standards of journalistic integrity in their coverage of this case.

What is an embryo?

As explained in the medical textbook The Developing Human: Clinically Oriented Embryology, an “embryo” is formed at “fertilization” and marks the “beginning of a new human being.” Per the American Heritage Dictionary of Science, the earliest stage of an embryo is also called a “zygote” or “fertilized egg.”
